I think comparing your situation to others much worse off always puts things in perspective. When you think about half this world's population goes to bed hungry each night, it makes your relationship/work problems seem so small in comparison.

I look down on most people to be honest. It's the Tory in me isn't it?

It's not something I'm guilty of perhaps because I'm just a bit too ordinary myself but i do sometimes look to see what others are wearing and what would or would not work for me x

There is a woman sitting near us who looks like a photographic negative - very dark orange fake tan and white blonde hair.
I am embracing my "inner biatch" today, apologies. ;)

I think a lot of people do it after hearing certain news stories, we all like to think we're better than people who commit heinous crimes.

I do this all the time, when i'm feeling unhappy with something in my life a good look at the third world puts things back into perspective for me. Makes me feel silly and selfish for fretting over dumb S*** when i'm living the good life in comparison to so many.

No. I do not think one would benefit from it is a double-edged sword. You can also compare yourself against people who are better off than you and get very dissatisfied about your situation and get very frustrated in not understanding why you can not be as well off as someone else.

I'm more apt to chriticize than compare.

I think one's perceptions of the world and one's place in it evolve as one ages. Mine certainly have.
