School underwear

Postby jennyjojo532 » Mon Feb 18, 2008 8:41 am

I remember the days when we wore stockings, suspender belts and bottle green knickers. In the fifth form we had a craze for wearing girdles instead of suspender belts. Does anybody else remember those far off days?

I used to wear suspenders and stockings under my school uniform but developed a wetting problem which meant i had to wear a nappy so had to wear tights as it was just too fiddly if i had to change halfway through the day.

forget about all the kinky stuff - anything about black stockings brings back memories of school for me - did anyone else on here go to a catholic girls' school?

I only ever wore stockings and suspenders twice at school, once in a school play, another at a 6th year party, where I dressed as a St Trinian, but in my gym skirt. It proved a bit of a distraction. I kept pulling it off as the night went on....... People kept lifting it, so I relented by puling it off, it was only held on by velcro, and had to watch if I breathed out too hard :P A 22 inch waist skirt on a 24 inch waist person, mmmm

Other than that it was either black or white knickers with matching bra (I've always worn the same colour of both since I started wearing a bra at 12) The school I was at, because they didn't like girls wearing very short skirts, other than in the gym or out on the sports field, if I wore a black bra I had to wear a jumper or a t-shirt so it wouldn't show through my blouse!

I was supposed to wear the regulation burgundy gym knickers on PE days but got away with black or white. I had to wear the burgundy ones when in netball or hockey inter school competitions so we were all the same and people wouldn't concentrate on what colour we were wearing.

Aye, right!

I still have my secondary school uniform, and still fit it......

never really got into stockings or suspenders, not til I was older and realised what they did for a boyfriend  but never saw them as practical as part of the school uniform.

did anyone wear a thong back in their school days? I never really got into them until I was 17/18 and had left school. just wondered what age it becomes acceptable to wear them as many people would consider them to be a sexy item of clothing, yet i'm sure girls as young 12/13 are wearing them these days.

I've seen thongs for 9 year olds in New Look....

I've never really liked them, I'll wear one now and again but not often. Maybe as in a bikini but not as knickers.

Thongs were popular when I was at school up to about 7 years ago, which is probably why gym skirts became unpopular! Then again some of the skirts girls wore were as good as being gym skirts.

There was a bit in the school boys liked to gather on windy days, it was a bit between two buildings that channeled the wind and blew our skirts up, some that weren't pleated either it was that strong. You could tell that way that thongs were popular.....

You could soon tell the ones that didn't mind the regular 'exposure'.

I screamed the first time it happened to me, which turned out to be more embaressing than people seeing my knickers in full. It's happened a few times since, but if it goes up, it goes up.

If my mum ame across a thong while doing my washing as a 9 year old I'm sure she'd have had something to say!

Don't mind a thong, foolishly makes me feel a bit sexier and don't really notice it after 5 mins. not sure i've the confidence to wear one to the pool or the beach though.

At 9 years old I hope there isn't too many occasions where her thong would be visible. I suppose even the bikini like knickers young children wear nowadays would have been frowned upon long ago, now they are accepted, considering what used tp be worn as underwear before.

I always used to wear thongs up until last year and, bizarrely, I used to get spots on my buttocks. This happened for about 2 or 3 years and never thought it was anything to do with my underwear. But since I stopped wearing them I never get spots now so it must have been them! I always wear panties now or,preferably, shorts. More comfortable.

I started wearing thong knickers when I was still at school aged about 17. I was one of the first in my year to wear them.

My experience was that thongs and g strings became the norm around GCSE years then as sixth form came along thongs turned to g strings and for many underware become totally optional with many choosing not to wear any at all during A level's a trend which contimues in Uni.

I was schooled at catholic schools and all three schools were very strict about uniforms. At secondary school we had spot checks for incorrect dress. Any girls caught not in full uniform were dealt with by the headmistress. Spot checks were usually done by the form teacher first thing any morning and any clothing not of uniform was confiscated on the spot and the culprit sent to the headmistress. There was always the odd girl who thought she could get away with not wearing regulation maroon knickers especially if we had already had a spot check the previous day, they would be made to stand in front of the class and remove their knickers hen report to the headmistress, so embarrassing carrying your knickers down the corridor to the office then standing waiting for punishment. All uniform misdemeanours were punished with six of the best over the knickers, it was tough if you had none on !!

This spot check was very common in the 70's and early 80's (don't know about earlier). My school was CofE (Church of England) and both my sisters used to complain to my mother about having their underwear checked. Uniform rules was that females had to wear regulation school knickers, my sisters hated them because the material they was made out of itched too much. It was the female PE teacher who did the checking. Only 1st to 3rd years (11 to 14) had the checks done, 4th and 5th years (15-16) didn't have to wear them therefore no checking was done BUT thongs were not allowed, again the female PE teacher would be observing when the girls getting changed for PE.

If any girl broke the underwear rule, first time offence they would be told to go home and change. Repeat offenders were sent to the deputy headmistress. Depending on the number of repeat offences, the girl would either get a letter of reprimand and sent to the parents, the can across the hand or the can across the backside. No girl would have to remove their underwear in front of the class and walk to the deputy headmistress office carrying them in full view of everyone. The school was very strict but not to the point of embarrassing the girls in the manner in which you describe above in your post.

The only embarrassing thing the boys had to suffer was playing sports in their underwear if they forgot their white PE shorts (football, rugby & outdoor hockey excluded). This stopped by 1984, same for the girls underwear checks.

So yes, part of what the poster wrote is correct, the later part is a bit suspect though BUT is not beyond the realms of possibility because I know from close friends that went to Catholic school, they were extremely strict on many things and would use embarrassment tactics to make sure pupils kept in line.

My mom bought me a couple sporty thongs when I was 16. Never used them to be sexy, just used them because they were comfortable sometimes. But I was never the wild kid, never went to parties or did anything wild. I was a loner. Maybe they wouldn't be appropriate for a more wild kid. But I don't like the idea of setting different standards for different kids, it's not fair.

Anyway, I had no school uniform, other than my cheer uniform. Which was waaaaayyyy too short. Barely covered me. Sometimes it didn't

Yes, totally inappropriate by today's standards but back in the 70's and 80's, different time, different era.

I was at school in the 70s and 80s and don't recall anything like that. Regulation knickers? No ... we just wore our own choice of knickers.

In primary school, if we forgot out PE shorts we were expected to do the lesson in our underwear, if it was an indoor lesson. Very embarrassing ... but it happened to most of us occasionally, so you kinda learned to accept it and live with it.

Though nearly all secondary schools in the UK during the 70's and 80's had a school uniform policy, i accept that some did not enforce 'regulation knicker' rule and pupils were allowed to wear their own choice of underwear (thongs were worn but they was never officially accepted). The only time 'regulation knickers' were worn as part of the school uniform policy for a lot of schools was during PE. At my school , when it was PE day, the girls brought in a pair for PE, something my sisters had to do on regular occasions, wear a pair for during school and a separate pair for PE.

Blouses and shirts had to be full arms, no short sleeves, neck ties worn at all times, even in hot weather. The only time you was allowed to wear a t-shirt was during PE and it had to be a plain white sports t-shirt. Anything with patterns, designs or other colours was not allowed.

As for primary school, ours had the same policy, if you forgot your PE shorts you had to do the lesson in your underwear (inside lessons only). This gave way to lots of giggles from both boys and girls when you'd see someone wearing 'themed' underwear, themed as in cartoon characters or based on popular toys such as barbie or action man. So yes, when that happened it certainly made you double check your bag for your PE kit.

Did anyone else have pleated grey or black school skirts with knickers attached? I don't mean skorts, these were proper bikini cut knickers. Didn't have to wear anything user those.

They were soo comfy, used to wear them all the time, even outside of school, to my friends amusement. Found bikini bottoms with attached skirt the other day, same idea really.

Well if you don't mean skorts I don't how to describe the garment.
Closest thing would be a swim skirt with a skirt over an attached speedo swim suit.
The PLEATS would be accessorized trim - I have few by Nike that are like that.
A SKORT is a skirt and shorts combined - the shorts were either like a panty; compression short (think bike pants) or loose fitting like men's boxer shorts.
Can be worn with or without a panty thong brief.

Originally these were designed for youngsters to wear and were called scooters - scooting their butts on slides swings teeter-totters in and out of sand box etc.
Had a skirt like apron front and the rear was like shorts no apron coverage.
These were later adapted by young misses for the sport of tennis - shorts and skirt in one - some have ball pockets in the side seaming.
Today these are found on the tennis courts golf courses and a variety of sporting activities.
Very comfortable to wear shorter than skirts and with the internal panty modesty is protected - think mini-skirt with panty.
If you browse on Ebay for these there are some 40k + auction offerings.

I wore very childish underwear to school (still do at 27yo) Barbie and Winnie the Pooh knickers and boyshorts were common, coupled with Disney princess and my little pony bras (ok, crop tops as my boob's are small A24) even in secondary school. I got bullied alot but I like them and think they're cool.

We could pick our own underwear but it had to be full bottom, and lace was only allowed at the side. Bras could be any style, but we had to change into sports bras for PE. We were allowed bikinis with full bottom or onepieces for swimming. We also had nudity rules. Nudity was allowed in the junior years for a shower, we could wear underwear, swimwear, a towel or go completely naked from the lockers (only one girl did that) As senior girls, we had to strip completely naked to go to the showers, no towels, and everyone naked until all of us showered. No teachers, the prefects gently encouraged everyone, both class prefects were expected to strip first and shower last to help the others see it is normal, staying naked until all the other girls had dressed. I was a prefect, so I was one of the two stripping off first day in front of the twenty-two other girls  very embarrassing first time (it was from tennis gear), but I faced everyone wearing only my bush. It's very healthy for young women's body image and confidence to see different shapes, breast sizes, bums, curves, and pubes (that was the other compulsory underwear, had to be full natural or trimmed, young women shouldn't have other styles until they are adults) and after a few weeks, we would not change it even if they changed the rules. It was to help us to become used to female nudity (seeing female nudity as well as experiencing it), and to stop bullying. Everyone was completely naked, so everyone was equal.
