what make is your computer as the beep code refers to a particular fault. Different manufacturers have different beep code. it could be simple fix but it could be serious

Yeah what she said, we need make and model or preferably BIOS type.

I know of at least three different meanings for "five beeps".

Keyboard error (that at least is easy to try, plug in a spare keyboard).
Processor fault, or DRAM fault. This will need someone with a bit of experience
to open it up and have a go reseating things.

Just remembered another one. CMOS battery failure. So you see make and
model really is the place to start.

all three that tina mentioned

I am assumming that this IS a computer that has Microsoft Windows on it !!!
none of the linux fixes i know for software will work

--- so HARDWARE ---
if the computer is 5 years old or older
then the CMOS battery is the likely cause

if the desktop has been moved recently
( as in a move to a new house / car ride /....)
the ram might have came lose

this was not a one time thing so it is NOT a "bit flop"

if about 5 years old
replace battery
and it is ALWAYS a good idea to CLEAN THE DUST OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi friends!

Here i fully read your forum discussions informations that all very useful to me Then i'm also like to share some informations about this topic Compute Beep Problem:

The computer power-on self-test (POST) tests the computer to make sure it meets the necessary system requirements and that all hardware is working properly before starting the remainder of the boot process. If the computer passes the POST, the computer gives a single beep (with some computer BIOS manufacturers it may beep twice) as it starts up and will continue to start normally. However, if the computer fails the POST, the computer will either not beep at all or will generate a beep code, which tells the user the source of the problem. Thank you, Keep in touch with us...

May it is because your computer does not have a hard drive so it could not find an operating system to load and run.
