Extending a network.

Postby Joyofsox » Sun Sep 17, 2017 10:29 pm

I have a rj45 outlet wired from the hub. We used it to connect a desktop PC though we are unlikely to want to do this again. Now we need another a little further away but I can't run anything more back to the hub as it's all plastered in.
How do I join on to the socket? It's all accessible, and in a studwall too.

Hi Foxy, long time no speak.

Can you not just get a Cat 6 5M cable or wifi with a booster if distant from the router? How far are we talking my dear?
I have met someone I cannot live without rather than someone that I can live with.

Nice to see you back and congratulations.
I had to do it very quickly in the end. I pulled out the socket and just twisted the wires together. I'd managed to run some cat5 or cat6 cable from the back of this box to a BT TV box together with a new aerial. Temporary camping in the spare room while we rewire/plaster/decorate the lounge.
It's all working fine thanks, but I don't expect it will last more than a few months.
By then we should be back in the living room.
