To be fair, that's a great song. Not really a country record though? I don't think so anyway.

That's my point tho. Dolly Parton is about as country as we get!

Well, like I said in earlier post, I went to a "proper" country music gig with friends once and found it exceedingly tedious. They were up dancing all night while my wife and me escaped to the bar.

Country music has sort of become the musical genre of the half-witted the ignorant and the bigoted (in other words Republicans). I remember shortly after the 9/11 attacks some famous country star wrote a song called "these colors don't run", to explain (in song form!) why we should support Bush's war.

pretty much the same here now a days. Not that I was a fan of the old stuff anyway, but like that comedy routine pointed out, the new stuff is trite crap. Though authentic, some of the old stuff could be unnerving.

I've always fancied having a go at a pedal steel guitar.
It's a bit like rubbing your tummy and patting your head at the same time, while knitting and reciting Shakespeare.
A bit of an animal.

I've seen bands like that. They always seem to be playing at my local on a Sunday evening.

To me country music is dancing music.
Square and line dancing buddy look out or get out my way.
I can boogie with the best.
And yeah bring on the rock.
Just don't get in my way if I'm on my third glass of wine.
The music may have stopped but I haven't.
Push me hard enough and I just may do my no pantie cartwheel
cuz I took them off just for you.

I used to know everything.
